Our concept for the Döppersberg is the most beautiful station environment
This year, the annual prize awarded by the Living City Foundation was for "The most beautiful station environment". A total of 77 cities from Germany and abroad applied. On the eve of the International City Congress in Berlin, our concept and implementation of the "Redesign of the Döppersberg station area at Wuppertal Central Station" was awarded first prize.
The extensive redesign, completed in 2018, now connects the bus and main station with the city center above ground in an attractive way for all pedestrians. Formerly scary spaces in pedestrian tunnels etc. have been eliminated and urban shopping facilities and squares with a high quality of stay have been created. The traffic situation was reorganized and harmonized on several levels. The high-quality and striking natural stone walls also create an address-forming situation.
