Mixed-Use-Ensemble in Cologne on the right bank of the Rhine
A new urban district is being developed around the port basin on the right bank of the Rhine. We are pleased to report that our concept for the initial components of this transformation process – the “Baufeld Ost 03” site – has impressed the jury. The goal of this pioneering project: a mixed-use ensemble with a high point that will set the tone for the entire district.
Dr. Florian Kreer, CEO of Kreer Development as awarding authority: “JSWD’s design satisfies the comprehensive requirements of the location with particular quality.”
Two L-shaped structures with staggered heights frame a generous inner courtyard. In terms of eave height, materials used, and facade structure, our concept for the construction around the perimeter of the block borrows from the site’s industrial history. Loft-like offices will be built behind the grid facade with its large, high windows; the residential facades will be characterized by balconies and loggias. The ground floor will be home to a daycare center and restaurants.
All participant submissions will be exhibited at the Cologne Deutz Municipal Hall (Stadthaus) starting on July 24, 2024 until August 30.
