Ground-breaking ceremony for the Rodenkirchen district town hall

Planning permission has also been granted.

In the south of Cologne, in the Rodenkirchen district, we are planning a new house for the needs of citizens. The groundbreaking ceremony will be held on March 20. The Lord Mayor Henriette Reker, the district mayor Manfred Giesen and Tobias Unterberg, partner at JSWD, will address the guests.

JSWD won the architectural competition some time ago and is now carrying out the general planning on behalf of the City of Cologne. Our concept picks up on the typology of the arcaded buildings that accompany the square. The town hall, as the striking head building of a future car-free city square, communicates openly and invitingly with the citizens via the generously glazed foyer. A new, attractive footpath will connect the square and the nearby banks of the Rhine.

The sustainably planned new building is based on the passive house construction method. Part of the demolition material will be reused. The technical concept envisages an energy supply via heat pump, ice storage and photovoltaic system. This makes the operation of the building independent of fossil fuels.
