According to designs submitted by JSWD Architekten, a new urban neigborhood, called “Cube Factory 577”, is underway at the site of the former railroad repair facility at Leverkusen-Opladen. The design calls for the revitalization of the former repair facility to enhance the development of student and general housing as well as for office use, retail shops and catering establishments at a campus. The central square at the new neighborhood will grow into the attraction for all users. Additional plans call for various sporting facilities and a new parking garage at the new 21,500 m2 property directly adjacent to campus of the Technical University [TH] Cologne CUBE Real Estate has invested approximately € 88,000,000 in this project.
A recent demolition party marked the start of the construction project. Certain segments of the facades and the roof construction, however, will be left intact. Project completion is scheduled for 2021.
