JSWD and LAND Are Planning the Interim Design of Wendersplatz.
Things are already getting colorful in Neuss—and not just on the grounds of the new park located on the site of the former horse racing track.
JSWD, together with the transportation planners from BSV and the open-space planners from LAND Germany, successfully completed the cooperative workshop process in 2021. During the subsequent dialogue phase, our consortium was able to refine the concept for the urban development of the new Wendersplatz.
For the duration of the 2026 State Garden Show, the City of Neuss commissioned an interim design for the former parking lot. The future construction sites and the planned path layout form the basis for the joint concept by LAND and JSWD. Now a Ferris wheel is spinning, and the IHK NRW has set up an information pavilion.
The basic idea behind the interim design of the brownfield site is the “Chromatic Grounds” concept. The concept translates the State Garden Show’s theme, “Traces of the Future,” into a spatial and visual experience. Colored surfaces and graphic markings structure the space and provide orientation, while simultaneously creating identity and atmosphere. The colors of the State Garden Show’s logo served as inspiration. The square becomes a colorful carpet that guides visitors into the Garden Show.
Here is what the IHK writes about its pavilion: “The ‘Campus Zukunft’ (Campus Future), as an interactive space, is a place for encounters, exchange, and inspiration. Companies from the region showcase innovations and how they are leveraging the opportunities of structural change ...”
