We are delighted to have won 2nd prize in the competition.
Our design envisages an ensemble of four buildings. They house, among other things, the ticket offices, a store and a bistro. The new arrival point in the Grugapark literally merges with the outdoor space and connects with the landscaped nature of the park. Four roofs of different sizes and heights overlap slightly and project far beyond the transparent façades to protect the interior spaces and various terraces from the weather. The staggered arrangement of the buildings means that there is no rear side.
The material of the new building: 100 percent wood. This minimizes the consumption of grey energy as well as the weight of the construction. PV modules collect solar energy on the shed roofs.
We are delighted with this result and congratulate the 1st prize winner, Bez + Kock. The jury was chaired by Prof. Tobias Wulf.
Many thanks also to the specialist planners involved: L02 Sven Witte (landscape architecture), Pirlet & Partner (building physics) and Merz Kley Partner (structural engineering)
