Groundbreaking ceremony at UKSH in Kiel

New construction of an interdisciplinary head center designed by JSWD

The construction project will create space for interdisciplinary collaboration between oral and maxillofacial surgery, ear, nose and throat medicine and ophthalmology. The new building completes the construction master plan on the Kiel campus.
The 22,000 m² gross floor area will accommodate the joint operating theater, outpatient clinics, three nursing wards with 90 beds and the ordinariates of the three clinics. The new building will offer employees a modern working environment.

The planning of the new head center is a further sustainable contribution by JSWD to the upgrading of the clinic campus on the Kiel Fjord. The roof areas will be extensively greened and equipped with a photovoltaic system. Heating is provided by a heat pump in combination with geothermal energy.

The façade concept continues the corporate architecture of the extension to the main building of the university hospital from 2019 (with HDR). Our design envisages a clinker brick façade that blends harmoniously into the surrounding buildings. A leaded glass window from the old HNO clinic will be integrated.

Completion of the new building is planned for 2028.
