Inauguration of Confex - 100 years of Koelnmesse

A milestone for Cologne as a trade fair location

Today, the Confex will be inaugurated as part of the celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of Koelnmesse. In the presence of Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse, and Oliver Frese, Managing Director of Koelnmesse, Hendrik Wüst, Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia, and Cologne's Mayor Henriette Reker will address the invited guests.

After a construction period of only 33 months on a difficult building site and the granting of the operating permit, the new event and congress location in the city center can now be officially inaugurated. Koelnmesse is now permitted to hold major events in the so-called Confex. The multifunctional exhibition hall is part of the future-oriented "Koelnmesse 3.0" program. JSWD won the associated competition in 2016 and had already realized Hall 1.

The new building will make Koelnmesse even more urban. It presents a new face to the city and networks with the neighboring urban structures. The CONFEX with its portico welcomes visitors with a special gesture. The architecture symbolizes the significance of the location.

During the planning phase, the focus was naturally also on sustainability. For example, 500 photovoltaic modules on the roof provide green energy that is consumed directly on site. These are a component of the application to the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) for the highest certification level, i.e. platinum.
