2nd prize for the Neue Bahnstadt Opladen
The “Neue Bahnstadt Opladen” was launched in the 1990s to revitalize and develop the 72-hectare area around the former Opladen railroad station. The aim was to create a modern urban quarter that combines living, working and leisure. The aim was to make effective use of the high proportion of unused industrial wasteland and the public transport links. The planning focused on the creation of living space, the establishment of businesses and services as well as the integration of green spaces and leisure facilities. Another aim was to link the districts with each other and connect them with urban functions in order to promote regional structural change." This is what the development company wrote in its application for the polis Award 2025.
The large-scale project has now been nominated in the “Urban land recycling” category and was awarded 2nd prize on the evening of May 7 at the polis Convention in Düsseldorf. We are delighted for the client.

Part of the task was the conversion of the historic railroad repair halls. CUBE Real Estate was commissioned in 2017 to realize JSWD's architectural concept. Today, the quarter is called “CUBE Factory 577”.
