3rd prize 2-phase competition 2023
The ensemble of two listed buildings (architect: Martin Gropius) is an important architectural component of the UKSH Campus in Kiel. We are adding three buildings to it. The central, cubic academy building is intended as an open learning landscape. In front of it is the newly designed Gropiusplatz, which will become the address to Schlosspark and in the direction of the Kiel Fjord. To the south, a two-part administration building flanks the park. The existing biotope there will be supplemented by biodiverse tree and plant species that are adaptable to climate change.
The basement of the administration building extends out of the slope and is clad in brick. Instead of an above-ground parking garage, the required parking spaces are integrated here on split levels.
From the entrance level we propose a wood-concrete hybrid construction. The façade design of the offices is based on the verticality of the Gropius buildings. Ceramic modules with integrated photovoltaics are the planned material. The design of the academy adopts this material, but with a more transparent horizontal façade structure.
